Application Engineer Team Leader, Medium-Voltage Drives

Bari, Italy

A global industrial-systems company supplying large electric motors, medium-voltage drives and automation to the metals, oil and gas and general industries is looking for an Application Engineer Team Leader to lead the application engineering team that turns customer requirements into technical specifications and competitive proposals for large motor and drive systems.

Based in Bari, Italy, with frequent domestic and international travel, sometimes at limited notice.

What you'll do

  • Lead the application engineers who evaluate customers' technical requirements and recommend product and service solutions, assigning work by expertise, workload and seniority and building the team's technical expertise and customer service
  • Prepare timely, accurate technical specifications for large electric motor and drive system proposals and orders, supporting the detailed cost analysis, and lead complex proposal development with regular reassessment of customer need
  • Oversee and contribute to the design and development of equipment for critical or new applications, and ensure projects complete on time with the most competitive solution
  • Build a network of technical evaluator relationships with clients and vendors, present at technical conferences and client sites, and track and assure customer satisfaction
  • Research and report on the capability of the company's products against competing equipment, track competitors' offerings and industry trends, and feed product enhancements and deficiencies back to business unit management and R&D
  • Create and implement technical support procedures, maintain detailed records of technical offerings for the team, and report team KPIs to the engineering manager

What you'll bring

  • A BSc in electrical, mechanical or automation engineering, or the equivalent through education and experience
  • 4 years' systems or application engineering experience in medium-voltage drives and motor systems; 6 or more years for the metals business preferred
  • Demonstrated success as a contributing member of project teams, with positive leadership, interpersonal, organisational, administrative and communication skills; 2 or more years as a team leader preferred
  • Successful working relationships with clients, suppliers and internal contacts, innovative problem-solving and presentation skills, and proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Client-facing, sales or marketing experience an advantage; fluent English; willingness to travel frequently
