An established high-power semiconductor manufacturer with over 60 years of heritage, a leading independent supplier of IGBT, bipolar, power-assembly and EV-system products whose devices enhance the reliability and efficiency of electrical energy control in power transmission, railway transportation, marine propulsion, fusion power, electric vehicles, renewable generation and industrial motor drives, is looking for a Power Electronics Design Engineer to join its growing Power Assemblies team during a significant period of growth.
Based in Lincoln, UK, reporting to the Engineering Manager.
What you'll do
- Design a range of power-conversion systems: controlled rectifiers, VAR compensation, voltage-source converters, high-energy pulsed-power switches, and IGBT-based inverters and converters (DC/DC, three-phase inverters, active front end, switch-mode power supplies, flyback, forward, H-bridge)
- Support new customer enquiries with full engineering review, simulation and design including drawings and schematics, presenting designs to win business
- Work within the power-assemblies design team to produce robust, optimised designs against customer specifications
- Engage customers on the technical detail of drawings and specifications, supporting them through the complete process
- Devise power semiconductor system solutions from first principles
- Progress from assisting to working independently on the design of power-conversion systems
What you'll bring
- A BA (Hons) or above in physics, power electronics, mechanical engineering or electrical/electronic engineering
- In-depth experience designing power-electronic systems, and at least 5 years in the power semiconductor industry or a related sector
- A proven track record in FACTS, IGBT inverters, motor drives, soft starts, HVDC and similar, with systems above 50kW and voltages up to 33kV (SVC, HVDC, VSC, STATCOM, pulsed power)
- Physical or materials-science experience in an applicable engineering or research role
- Experience with PLECS, MATLAB, PSpice and KiCAD
- The ability to present data meaningfully to a diverse audience and to interface directly with customers and suppliers
