A gigawatt hour on one site, land now bought, construction in the first quarter of 2027 and operation in the first half of 2028. Eight hours of storage at 125 megawatts is not frequency response, it is time shifting, and a project sized like that is a bet that the Australian grid will keep paying to move solar from the middle of the day into the evening for the whole life of the asset.
The number that matters for hiring is the eighteen months between now and first steel. Commissioning managers, high-voltage protection engineers and grid-code compliance specialists have to be under contract long before the batteries arrive, and on the eastern Australian grid the same few hundred people are being chased by every project on the same timetable. Anyone who waits until 2027 to open those roles will be recruiting against a booked-out market at whatever rate it asks. The developers who staff early do it by hiring protection and commissioning engineers out of transmission utilities and large solar, then teaching them the battery, which is the shorter half of the learning.
