Buying an integrated voltage regulator business is a bet that power delivery moves onto the die, and that changes who a power company needs to employ. Vertical power delivery sits between the power electronics engineer and the chip designer, and very few people are genuinely comfortable on both sides of that line.
Acquisitions like this are also the moment good people become reachable. Integration unsettles reporting lines and roadmaps, and the six months after an announcement are when engineers who were previously immovable will take a call.
