Wise Integration, the French company behind the WiseWare digital control platform, is working with Navitas, which makes gallium nitride and silicon carbide power semiconductors, on power conversion for AI. They start with power supply units for AI data centres and will look at other high-voltage, high-power topologies after that, with AI PCs, workstations and industrial systems also in scope. Wise Integration is headquartered in Hyères, with R&D in Grenoble and Ottawa. Its CEO, Ghislain Kaiser, says wide-bandgap devices only reach their potential with advanced control.
He is right, and it is the hiring point. A GaN transistor switches fast enough that the controller, the firmware and the magnetics decide how good the power supply is, so the scarce engineer is no longer only the analogue power designer. It is the person who can write digital control loops for a megahertz converter and understands what the switch is doing underneath. Those engineers usually come from motor control, from digital power teams at the large PSU makers, or from university power electronics labs, and a partnership like this one will pull on the same pool that STMicroelectronics, Schneider and the data centre PSU makers already recruit from.

This is one of the markets we recruit in every day. Power electronics recruitment is the work we have done longest and know best. Devices, modules and conversion topologies are a small world: the people who can design a gate driver, win a design-in at a Tier-1, or run a power module business are known to each other, and most of them are not looking when we call.
